What I expect from that trope are four things: So yeah.I'd just line to see creator races as more than mustache-twirling villains since that's how I've typically seen them displayed. (So yes, humans are known primarily as a self-serving, violent, materialistic and easily-controllable race in this setting. This culture is exceptionally selfish and decadent, and uses several other races to do their bidding including a race based on the "reptilians" of conspiracy theory fame (known as "draconians" in this setting) and humans, the latter of whom are the "grunts" in a complex hierarchy of low-vibrating/selfish/"evil" races that have since come to dominate the setting. I also am writing a story from the perspective of a member of the creator race culture that act as antagonists in pretty much every other work in the setting, and it's been a fun experiment to say the least. Heck, one of the protagonists from a story in this setting from comes from a culture of this race who left their advance technology behind and lead a purposefully low-tech, egalitarian lifestyle in harmony with the natural world of their home planet. However, instead of treating them as a single monolithic culture they actually had/have multiple cultures and only one of them is cast in a villainous role. In one of my settings I have a super-advance creator race and some of it's members are the main antagonists. However, using them as villains can still work, you'd just have to do it in a more unique way. So, with that in mind seeing a creator race that was actually benevolent would be a nice change of pace and an interesting take on the trope. This kind of race is almost always made evil from what I've seen of them, because absolute power corrupts absolutely and all. For what I expect from the trope it's simple: power, mystery and, due to how such species are portrayed 90% of the time an antagonistic role in the story if any of them have survived the fall of their race.
